Women in the Law: Overcoming Hurdles and Achieving Success

Although women have made great strides in the legal profession, some significant questions persist: Why does the percentage of women decline as they climb the legal ladder? Is a real work-life balance possible in such a demanding job? Is full gender equality possible in the legal profession? The participants of our Washington, D.C. forum spoke on the need for in-house counsel to recognize the accomplishments and service of their female outside counsel, and on the factors—more subtle than the simple discrimination of years past—that continue to impede women’s advancement to the highest levels of the legal profession.
